Emma Lewisham Receives Nobel Laureate Endorsement

New Zealand skincare brand Emma Lewisham has received an endorsement rarely seen in the beauty industry, with Nobel Prize-winning physician and molecular biologist Dr Peter Agre publicly recognising the company’s scientific approach.
Awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery of aquaporins — proteins that regulate the movement of water through cells — Dr Agre is regarded as one of the world’s foremost scientists. His research transformed the understanding of cellular hydration and has influenced fields ranging from medicine and neuroscience to plant biology and agriculture.
 
Though his research might appear distant from skincare, it is Dr Agre’s systems-based perspective that resonates with Emma Lewisham’s approach. The brand creates formulations that engage multiple biological pathways at once—a reflection of the skin’s own complexity. Each product brings together up to 25 evidence-based actives, supporting a spectrum of processes in concert.

For founder Emma Lewisham, this recognition marks the realisation of a vision set in motion at the company’s inception in 2019: to reimagine both the science of skincare and the environmental obligations of the beauty industry. In 2021, the brand became the world’s first climate-positive certified skincare company, and today it claims the highest B Corp score among luxury skincare brands worldwide.

This endorsement follows earlier recognition from the late environmentalist Dr Jane Goodall, who acknowledged the company’s leadership in sustainability in 2021. Together, these acknowledgements place Emma Lewisham at the intersection of scientific inquiry and environmental stewardship, underlining a philosophy that extends beyond product efficacy.
