Indonesia is a fitting place to begin. Across South-East Asia, architecture, interiors and design are in a period of expansion, and Jakarta stands as a centre for creative practice. Set within the Indonesia Design District during Indonesia Design Week, the exhibition situates SaloneSatellite in a region where design is actively shaping culture, the economy and the urban landscape.
Founded and curated by Marva Griffin Wilshire, SaloneSatellite has championed designers under 35 for nearly three decades. It has served as a launchpad for emerging talent, forging connections between young creatives and international manufacturers. Today, the Permanent Collection holds more than 400 objects that trace the early moments of many design journeys. From this archive, around 55 works will make their way to Jakarta.
Rather than a chronological retrospective, the exhibition traces the evolution of ideas as they become objects. It highlights the relationships that transform prototypes into recognised designs. Visitors encounter pieces that have become contemporary icons, alongside lesser-known projects that reveal the experimentation and collaboration at the heart of design practice.
