Win a weekend retreat at The Treehouse by Thomas Lawley

We’re giving away a two-night stay at the 2022 Small Home of the Year, The Treehouse by Thomas Lawley.

On a previously farmed patch of land at the base of Mt Taranaki, the premise for this design was to reuse and utilise materials that were available while ensuring there was no waste. That has played out in various ways to create a structure of eccentricity and delightful oddities.

Designed by artist Thomas Lawley who grew up on this land, The Treehouse is also an experiment in possibilities and thresholds. “Like when a mark on a page becomes a painting … in creating a building, the question becomes: when does outside space become inside?

“This building wasn’t inspired by other buildings; it was mostly inspired by the work of other artists … artists who try to imagine how things can be different, and imagine themselves in different places.”
