We catch up with Georgia Baker to talk about her bath towel company.
What is Ottoloom?
Ottoloom is a New Zealand–based designer of the finest quality, hand-loomed, 100 per cent organic Turkish towels. We stock everything from luxury thick-looped Turkish bath towels and face cloths to Turkish hand towels and beach towels.The concept was born from a love of beautiful and unique textiles.
Why Turkey?
We work directly with Turkey’s few remaining weaving families, and our materials are sourced in the same country. Our artisans are some of the last remaining people with the equipment and knowledge to produce our unique and traditional thick-looped weave, which has been around since the Ottoman era — hence the name!
What is so unique about the cotton being used?
Our towels are made with 100 per cent (GOTS) certified organic Turkish cotton, using practices that are sustainable and environmentally friendly, with the end result being a fabric of integrity and strength, with a look singular to this craft.
How would you describe your favourite of the designs, and why?
The Moscow & Paros ranges are my absolute favourite. I love the colours and texture they bring to the bathing ritual. The bath towels feel so divine and luxurious against the skin — unlike any other towels I’ve used. The thick loop has a substantial softness to it that not only feels great but is super absorbent!
