Ground Control: Peter Fell at M House

At M House by Ponting Fitzgerald Architects, the arrival sequence is deliberate — a slow arc around the building that allows the architecture to be read in full before entry. It’s a movement that begins at ground level.

The coloured concrete driveway in PeterFell 189 — a distinctive warm, earthen tone from the Neutral Range — forms part of this initial experience. The colour sits comfortably within the rural Martinborough landscape; against the green paddock and wide skies, the surface is measured and grounded, a subtle counterpoint to the elevated, linear form of the house itself.

In a project defined by its abstract form, where corrugated steel, glass, and a tightly controlled palette come together seamlessly, the hardscaping avoids unnecessary emphasis. Instead, it supports the broader composition, reinforcing the sense of a building that is placed, rather than imposed.

The use of PFL Natural Sealer ensures durability while allowing the concrete to weather and settle over time without losing its integrity. It’s a treatment that aligns with the project’s wider material approach: robust and enduring.
