To celebrate its 20th anniversary at Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign, Muuto has unveiled a trio of special releases.
At this year’s 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, Danish design brand Muuto marks its 20th anniversary with a gaze set firmly on the future. Under the theme Next Chapters in Scandinavian Design, the celebration unfolds through three considered releases: a limited-edition chair by Spacon, a collectible glass object by Lise Vester, and a new publication that looks ahead to the evolving landscape of Scandinavian design.
Since its founding in 2006, Muuto has sought to reinterpret Scandinavian design for a contemporary audience. Twenty years later, the brand remains committed to exploring the interplay between function and feeling, viewing design as a force that invites presence, reflection, and human connection.
At the centre of the anniversary collection is the Close to Heart Chair by Copenhagen studio Spacon. Crafted in Denmark from extruded aluminium, the chair starts with the measured geometry of industrial lines, then shifts as each profile is shaped into a heart. “Close to Heart Chair is conceived with love. Translating something deeply intuitive into a precise design language. The heart is universally recognisable – playful and a bit naive,” says Spacon.
Limited to 150 numbered pieces, the design strikes a balance between play and precision.
Alongside the chair, designer Lise Vester introduces the Inner View Object—a sculptural form that exists between mirror and object. Mouth-blown in Murano and finished by hand, it turns reflection into an act of perception. Its curved surface gathers and bends light, inviting viewers to reconsider their surroundings and their own presence within them. Like the chair, the object is offered in a numbered edition of 150.
Completing the anniversary programme is the launch of Next Chapters in Scandinavian Design: Muuto on Creating Intentional Spaces, published by Gestalten. Through essays, photography and conversations with contemporary designers, the book traces the shifting landscape of Scandinavian interiors across five themes: colour, form, tactility, nature and light. Its focus moves beyond objects, considering how atmosphere, materiality and spatial relationships shape the rhythms of daily life.
Together, these three launches reflect Muuto’s ongoing pursuit of intentional design—one that engages both the practical and the emotional. As the brand marks two decades of innovation, its attention remains on the possibilities ahead.
