Resident Abroad

Celebrating its 15th year, Resident returns to Copenhagen’s 3daysof design, continuing a new chapter for the New Zealand studio within one of the global design industry’s defining gatherings.

Founded in Aotearoa in 2011, Resident has established a genuine international presence through work that balances sculptural form with restraint, and materiality with atmosphere. Collaborations with local and international designers have shaped a collection that moves fluidly between residential, hospitality, and workplace settings.

The upcoming showcase in Copenhagen marks both a milestone and a pause for reflection on Resident’s expanding global influence. Despite international acclaim, Resident’s ethos remains grounded in a decidedly New Zealand outlook defined by clarity, craftsmanship, and thoughtful simplicity.

Drift Pendant

Designed for Resident by Michael Young, the Drift Pendant takes its cues from the softened irregularity of river stones. Its faceted form casts a calm, diffused glow, appearing almost weightless. Available in two sizes, it stands confidently alone or in clustered arrangements.

Plane Lounge Chair

Crafted from solid oak, the Plane Lounge Chair is a striking combination of form and function. Its cantilevered seat, supported by concealed joinery, presents a seemingly impossible balancing act. A true statement, it commands attention with its substantial mass — a meeting of sculptural artistry and robust practicality.

Sacha Armchair

Designed by Philippe Malouin, Sacha is visually graphic; brutal and geometric yet comfortable and enclosing. Its distinctly folded backrest is enhanced by slender, fully upholstered arms. The backrest features a subtle inclination, offering the perfect resting angle.

Offset Stool

The Offset Stool carries an inherent playfulness, its oak form anchored by off-centre threaded connectors that allow each leg to be adjusted into an individualised position. Robust, sophisticated, and solid.
