Second finalist Home of the Year 2019

Project: Arrowtown House
Practice: RTA Studio
Location: Arrowtown, Central Otago

Following their cross-country tour visiting some of New Zealand’s best new architecture, HOME editor Simon Farrell-Green, Lance and Nicola Herbst (winners in 2016 and 2018), and Paraguay’s Gloria Cabral are happy to bring you the second finalist for Home of the Year 2019.

This dynamic house in Arrowtown by Richard Naish of RTA studio was designed as several monolithic buildings loosely grouped around a courtyard. Combining raw, robust materials including stacked stone, rusted steel and concrete, it provides shelter from the area’s extreme climate, along with thoughtful spaces in which to engage or retreat.

Watch the video above to take a tour and hear about what the judges loved from HOME editor Simon Farrell-Green.
