Infamous for its Syrah, Trinity Hill Estate is a local – and international – favourite but it’s a new vintage that’s had people talking of late.
Trinity Hill has just taken home the Wine of the Show at the 2022 Hawke’s Bay Bayleys Wine Awards for their 125 Gimblett Chardonnay 2021. Earlier this year, the 2020 vintage of this wine was also awarded one of only 20 trophies by the International Wine and Spirits Challenge 2022. Trinity Hill was the only New Zealand winery represented, and their Chardonnay was the only one to be selected by the judges for a trophy, an incredible endorsement with over 4,000 wines in total tasted during the challenge.

The 125 Gimblett Vineyard, from which this wine gets its name, is located on 125 Gimblett Road and is in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District. Trinity Hill’s Chief Winemaker Warren Gibson, pictured, says. “The 125 Gimblett Road Vineyard site has a history of making Chardonnay from the early 1980’s, being one of the original sites planted on what is now known as the Gimblett Gravels. A replanting over the last 15 years is now paying serious dividends. The site consistently provides perfectly ripe fruit that is gently transformed into delicious, complex, and powerful wines, that we aim to sit alongside the great Chardonnays of the world.”
Trinity Hill Estate is located just outside of Hastings on Roys Hill Road. The cellar door is open daily 11am-5pm.
